Lic. Meredith R. Brown

La Lic. Brown ha practicado derecho migratorio desde 1997 y ha abogado para la comunidad migratoria desde 1988, cuando inicio prestando servicio voluntario con CARECEN - Centro de Recursos Centroamericanos.

La Lic. Brown es parte del panel de abogados que proveen asistencia legal gratuita en el tribunal de inmigración de Los Angeles.  Ella es graduada de la Facultad de Derecho Loyola y obtuvo su titulo en psicologia de la Facultad de derecho Occidental en Los Angeles, California.

Como abogada de derecho de inmigración y de los derechos de la comunidad, su mision ha sido lograr cambios positivos y permanentes dentro del actual derecho migratorio a través de su trabajo comunitario con lideres de varias organizaciones no lucrativas y con funcionarios.

Algunos de los logros de la Lic. Brown a través de los años incluyen los siguientes:

• La Lic. Brown fue uno de los organizadores principales de un gran movimiento a favor de los derechos de los inmigrantes en  Washington DC en octubre de 1996, en el cual cerca de 100,000 personas participaron.
• Ella asistio en en una demanda para proteger los derechos de docenas de ciudadanos naturalizados para retener dicho estado--aún bajo la amenaza de la denaturalizacion erronea por el Servicio de Ciudadania y Naturalización.
• Ella ha donado su tiempo con otras comunidades e instituciones, incluyendo Casa Nicaragua, One Stop Immigration, el Centro de Recursos Centroamericanos, y otras instituciones comunitarias--ofreciendo información gratuita acerca del derecho migratorio a miles de personas.
• Ella ha sido mentora de estudiantes de derecho cada verano, entrenandolos para trabajar en demandas y para abogar a favor de inmigrantes.
• Ella esta involucrada con varios proyectos, incluyendo:

                - Campañas informativas para proteger a los inmigrantes contra fraude de notarios.
                - Capacitaciones patrocinadas por el Conjunto de Abogados de Los Angeles
                - Campañas para expandir las leyes actuales de inmigración con el objetivo de proveer más derechos y  
                   protección a los inmigrantes.

La Lic. Brown habla el Español fluido y esta disponible para campañas informativas en asuntos relacionados a inmigración y los derechos de los inmigrantes.

Meredith R. Brown

Ms. Brown has been practicing immigration law since 1997 and has been an advocate for the immigrant community since 1988, when she began as a volunteer with the Central American Refugee Committee.

Ms. Brown is on the pro bono panel of the Los Angeles Immigration Court. She is a graduate of Loyola Law School and holds her B.A. in psychology from Occidental College, Los Angeles, California.

As an immigration attorney and people’s advocate, Ms. Brown’s mission has been to bring about positive and lasting change within the current immigration law by working with both the immigrant community as well as with community-based  leaders and elected officials.

Some of Ms. Brown’s achievements over the years include the following:

• Ms. Brown was one of the principal organizers of a major, pro-immigrant rights mobilization in Washington DC in October 1996, in which nearly 100,000 persons participated.
• She has assisted with class action litigation to protect the rights of dozens of naturalized citizens to remain as such—even under the threat of erroneous denaturalization by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
• She has volunteered her time with other communities and institutions, including Casa Nicaragua, One Stop Immigration, the Central American Resource Center, and other community-based organizations—presenting free information on the immigration law to thousands of participants.
• She has mentored law students each summer, training summer interns to work on class action litigation and to advocate for immigrants.
• She is involved with a variety of projects including:
  • Informational campaigns to protect immigrants against notary fraud
  • Trainings sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar
  • Campaigns to expand current immigration laws with the goal of providing more rights and protection for immigrants

Ms. Brown is fluent in Spanish and is available for public speaking engagements on issues relating to immigration and immigrants’ rights.
